2011 Summer Road Trip - Leaving California

Life just got in the way of me blogging but now that I've started on a road trip across the United States for seven weeks I decided it would be fun to do some posts of our adventure.  For several years my daughter, Monica, and I talked about when her sons got old enough to remember about their vacation, we would buy a motorhome and take a long road trip.  So now that my grandsons were at a great age for a trip,  Davis 13, CJ 11, and Eli 8 we thought it would be a good time to take to the road.

My SIL had to work until noon so as soon as he got home, we were packed and ready to begin our adventure.

Papa decided the boys needed their own cameras to document our journey so before we began, they received their gift.  Notice the great wrapping paper.

With everyone finding their travel space and pilot and co-pilot in place, we hit the road for a U.S. adventure.

My Aunt Jessie

I don't even know where to begin this post.  In February I received a phone call from my Mom saying that my Aunt Jessie (my Mom's sister) had fallen during the night and she couldn't move.  From that time forward our family stayed with her 24/7.  On March 1st, she went to live in Heaven.  I'm sure she has a whole new perspective on decorating since she has now taken up residence in a place that is more beautiful than our earthly minds can imagine.

Romancing your Home

In the previous post, I mentioned that the pink and black was inspiring me to create a vignette.  Well, I didn't have to look too far to see I already had a vignette with those colors.

 All I had to do was turn the corner in my living room to find some pink and black.

 We can take a closer look.

While on a shopping adventure in a vintage store, I found this print.  Actually, after I posted my shopping adventure, Suzanne mentioned in a comment that "this was wrapping paper" and I thought "I think I have seen that print before" so I looked in my stash under my bed and guess what I found.  I had this print all along.  That confirmed I must really like this map of  Paris.  I have read "Paris is the most romantic city".  I don't know about that but maybe some day I can check it out.

When I showed this print to Mr. VH he wasn't impressed.  He said the frame was not good so he set out to put it under glass and square-up the frame.  He, also, painted it black for me. 

The metamorphosis was complete.

From the same shopping adventure, I came home with this black Underwood typewriter.  The unique part that made my heart beat faster was the fact that it had a "pink" key.

If you take a closer look, the key on the top right is "pink".  It is on a teeter-totter mechanism with a black key.  It seems these keys were used to change the colors on the ribbon because it shifts the ribbon up and down.  I guess I'm really aging myself because I remember typing on machines that did that.

Math Sistas

I couldn't resist posting these pictures.  My daughter, Monica, is a high school Math teacher and every year Frontier High School does a fundraiser.  The students and teachers get involved and this year the " Math Sistas" rocked out for Airband.  They did the song "So What" by Pink.

It takes alot of time and practice but I know they all had a good time.  It shows the students that teachers can have fun too.


I'm thinking maybe a pink and black themed vignette being inspired coming from these pictures.  Stay tuned.
