On the Road Again - Weekend Shopping Adventure - Part 1

On the road again for a fun weekend of antiquing and shopping with friends.  I told them a good name for us would be the "Girlfriend Gadabouts"  There are seven of us that love the same things, God....  family.... friends.... antiquing.... shopping.... decorating.... I could go on but this post has to be in segments since it is already too long.  We have been planning this trip for months and the few days before we were leaving, the emails and phone calls were made with much anticipation of the excitement and fun we were going to have on this trip.

How appropriate that as we were heading west to an old barn, a rusty old trailer would lead the way.

This adventure was planned around the "Remnants of the Past" vintage show in Nipomo, California.

We rented a 12-passenger van so we would have plenty of room for our treasures.  The renting of the van is a whole other story.  The van was suppose to head to Texas but Beverly, our driver, convinced it to go to the barn in California.

We knew we were getting close when we saw the coastal fog hovering over the hills.

We made it to the "Welcome" gate and we knew we were going to be in for a treat.

The show was in the middle of a citrus orchard and these bouquets lined the pathway.

Did they really think that orange tape was going to hold back a group of treasure hunters?

Anxiously waiting for the orange tape to be removed was left to right:
Sally, Sandi, Gail, Linda, Beverly, and Ruth.  We missed Cindi being with us.
We did leave at 5:30 a.m. and there was a touch of chill in the air but we were polite and waited to enter.
Once I entered, I guess I got too excited to take many pictures but here are a few to view.

See the garters on the lamp shade.

I just loved these sweet peas.

This veggie display is a cute idea for a buffet or tablescape so you will probably be seeing it again.

In case you can't read the sign it says
"To market, to market on my old blue bike,
Home again, home again with things that I like"

One of  the things I liked was meeting Sue Whitney, founder of Junk Market.
If you would like to see more from Sue click on Junk Market Style

Sue was gracious to sign a copy of her book "Junk Beautiful" the outdoor edition for me.
I have already started reading it and it has great ideas.

I did purchase the black-faced clock from Sue's Junk Market booth.

I guess the rusty trailer that lead us to the vintage show must have stuck in my brain because I had to buy these old rusted cans with plants in them.  Look closely at the flattened fork that says US and the rusty scissors that are handy for gardening.  Click here to see more from The Tattered House  I always try to stop by and see the Tattered Girls, Sandy and Erika, when I am in the Sacramento California area.  They are so friendly and put on a great street fair in front of their store.

If you want to read more about the show click on this link Remnants of the Past
I would appreciate it if you would please let Judy and other blogs I am linked to, know that you read about it on my blog.

It was time to head on south for our weekend adventure.  We look forward to the next show.

"Streets of Bakersfield" - French Quarter

I am on the "Streets of Bakersfield" traveling down Rosedale Highway and the black awning catches my eye so my car just parks at "The French Quarter" by JH Design.  Yes, it is a design and home furnishings store. Most of  the items are new but once in a while an antique is in the mix.
When you walk through the door, you hear French inspired music playing.  There is much to see, but on this particular day, I was looking at chandeliers so that is why I mostly took some pictures to show my husband but I will share with you, too.

The store is packed with home furnishings and accessories.

I did make a purchase on this shopping trip but I didn't take a picture of it while in the store.

This lamp with the leopard printed shade went on my bedside table.  The shade is rectangle shaped so it is perfect for night reading in bed.

A little France in Bakersfield.....who knew?

Au revoir

A Gift within a Gift

During my recent minor surgery on my finger, my friend, Sally, brought me a get well gift.  While the gift was delicious...a red velvet cupcake, I loved the package as well.  I felt the box and bow were a gift in itself so I thought I would share.

Thank you Sally.

Just a little reminder to be a blessing to someone today.
HAVE  A GREAT DAY.

Short Break from Blogging

I had to take a short break from blogging because I had surgery on my finger.  It wasn't the finger that was the problem, it was the pain meds.  Since I am off those, I can now think clearly (well, normal for me...ha)   I can type with one hand so a post is on its way.  Just wanted to let you know.

Vintage Black Friday - Bibles, Bustle, & Boots

I am linking to Vintage Black Friday for the first time.  It is the first Friday of each month and the only rules for the post is it has to be vintage and black.  Since I, too, love vintage black items, I wanted to start posting some of my favorite vintage black pieces.

Since Vintage Black Friday is on "Good Friday" I wanted to share my collection of vintage Bibles.  Some of my favorites are the black ones in the middle of this picture.  The first black Bible standing is a 1967 Bible that my husband and I received when we were married in 1968.  The larger vintage black Bible was printed in Great Britain but I have not been able to find a date when published.  The small vintage black Bible was published in 1872.   Another vintage piece is the pen sitting on top of the marble base.

This Bible is copyrighted in 1936.  This Bible belonged to my Grandmother and was given to me when she passed away in 1990.  Grandma started the family register in this Bible so I have tried to keep information up to date.    This is a treasured keepsake.

This black Victorian gown has beautiful detailed beading and netting.  I tried to show it but the fabric is very delicate so I try not to touch it too much.

This Victorian gown has sequins and hand sewn details on every inch.

Beautiful details and beads on sleeve.

This hat is from the early 1900's accessorized by the two vintage rhinestone hat pins.

I accessorized it with this vintage black and green beaded purse which compliments the vintage umbrella.

No Victorian outfit is complete without Victorian boots.

This Victorian lady would have had a beautiful silhouette with this detailed bustle.  She would definitely need her maid to help her be fashionable for this Vintage Black Friday Blog Party.  If you want to view more posts, click on French Cupboard or VBF button on sidebar.

Many Blessings and Happy Easter!
