Three Speckled Hens Antique Show

My friend, Leslie, and I just received word that we have been accepted to be vendors in the show "Three Speckled Hens".  This show is on the central coast of California in the city of Paso Robles.  Here is a photo we took of our treasures.

Chillin' with my Ghoul friends

Two of my "Ghoul friends" had birthdays in October and we haven't gotten together to just visit for a while so I decided at the last minute.....which is my usual plan, to have the celebration at my house.  I had just taken my Halloween decorations down to share with another group and I was going to go for decorating my house for Thanksgiving but while I was on a shopping trip, I purchased these beverage napkins and I knew I had the theme for our party:

My Mom was my right-hand Ghoul

The table was set with sparkling Autumn leaves and colorful velvet and glittered Pumpkins.  The white candles add ambiance while dripping black wax.  The colorful Fiestaware gave a cheerful touch of color for the celebration. It is not about the scary but about the fun even though there was a orange and black furry spider crawling on the table.

They only dared to enter with this dress form
dressed up as a headless witch.  Her hat was too cute.

The medicine cabinet was filled with poisons.

 Who would dare to eat dessert on these plates after passing by that cabinet.

Can you believe that rat perched on top of my antique books. Take a look at the pumpkin made from pages of a book.

There were other creatures lurking in the shadows.

Even the pirate's ship landed to check out all the ghouls.

We tried to stay up until the bewitching hour but
all Ghoul things have to come to an end.

2010 Thanksgiving Day

 

The Thanksgiving Table is set.

The new silver turkey is taking center stage.

The table is layered with a taupe, cream and dark brown striped tablecloth, I used the underside of another tablecloth for texture in the tablescape....I love the underside print as well as the topside.

 The placesetting begins with a cream woven round placemat, silver charger, chocolate "Fiesta" plate, and a turkey printed plate I purchased at HomeGoods.

The chocolate "Fiesta" flatware was wrapped in a cloth napkin and placed in stemware to allow more room on the table.

Silver Turkey Salt and Pepper Shakers accented with colorful acorns.

One of our all time favorite cookie is

Gretchen’s Sugar Cookies

1 c     Butter

1 c     Sugar

1       Egg

3 c     Flour

2 tsp  Baking Powder

1 tsp  Vanilla

 

 

The secret to this recipe is to :  

Roll out with powdered sugar  (no flour)

I used for the first time a "SILPAT" I purchased from  Sur la Table (made in France)  It worked great!         

Bake at 375 degrees for 10 minutes.

Let cookies cool and then frost with: 

Buttercream Frosting

1 lb   Powdered Sugar

¼ tsp Salt

¼ c   Milk

1 tsp Vanilla

1/3 c (2/3 stick) Soft Butter

Beat with electric mixer until smooth;  scrape bowl often. 

Our family loves this recipe and it is suitable for every holiday.

We,also, love the Tollhouse mini chocolate chip cookies recipe straight from the package..

 In between all this work, we had to stop and play some games.

I want to thank my three grandsons, Eli, CJ, and Davis for helping me have a fun time preparing the food (and also tasting to make sure it would be good for our Thanksgiving meal)

And a big thanks to CJ for cleaning up because Grammy can not cook without making a BIG mess.

Pre- Thanksgiving Tablescape

Even though it isn't Thanksgiving Day, I like to give thanks everyday so I am using some Thanksgiving elements to make a tablescape for tonight's dinner.

The first layer is a runner that is white with black dots and black trim.

Also, I used the black iron stand with crystals to give height to the candle.

The place settings were layered with a white round straw placemat, silver charger, large black plate and a white salad plate because of the scalloped edge.

The small black plate with white dots is added to give a neutral palette for any accent color.

Since the table is black. it is hard to see that the white cloth napkin has a black ribbon edging.

The flatware is black with silver which gives it some bling.

The black crystal stemware keeps the palette neutral.

This is where any color can be used to accent.

Since it is close to Thanksgiving, the battery operated ORANGE candle 

with frosted fruit gives the centerpiece a punch of color.

The glittered pumpkin and more frosted fruit adds more sparkle.

Using the brightly colored foil turkey gives some whimsy.

A few falling leaves anchor the tablescape together.

Pulling all the elements together gives a simple but cheerful tablescape.

This setting could be used for Thanksgiving Day but I chose to use it as a Pre-Thanksgiving Dinner.

Reminscing about the 2009 Indiana Trip

Since my one year Blogaversary giveaway is over at midnight on Sunday, October 31, 2010, I thought it might be fun to show one of my first posts when I was shopping at The Red Barn Antique Mall in Indiana.  It was so beautifully Autumn with all the mums and plants outside the barn.  I'm sharing with Sunday Favorites with Happy to Design since this blog party is designed to share a past post.

  When traveling through Indiana, I picked up a brochure about an antique mall in Corydon. Since it was called The Red Barn, I thought it would be fun to check it out. The mums and fall decor drew me in from the beginning. I always love it when the booths are displayed cute and it is clean....well, clean as a barn can be. I brought home several treasures from this stop.

 Reading this past post makes me want to take a road trip but this Fall Trip we will be flying so I won't get to bring too many treasures back with me but I will be bringing back memories with our son and daughter-n-law.

Reminiscing with "Sunday Favorites" Blog Party

When I saw that the blog "Happy to Design" was having a "Sunday Favorites" blog party, I knew I wanted to be included.  The party is designed to give bloggers an opportunity to share, once again, one of their favorite posts.

Since it will be almost one year (October 15, 2009) since I began my own blog, I decided I would like to share one of my first posts. 

 

When I first saw the black pumpkins, I knew I had to include them in my topiary.

A furry black spider greets you at my front door.

Nature does not provide our area with much of a Fall season so we have to create our own. We just came back from a trip from the West Coast to East Coast. We were a little early for the Fall even on the East Coast but we did have to shop at four faux pumpkin patches on the drive in order to create these topiaries.

 I made these faux pumpkin topiaries last year  and when I brought them out to place them by my door this year, it brought back precious memories we had on our "Across-the-United States" trip.  My husband was so good about letting me stop to shop whenever I spotted shops that I didn't want to pass up. Our van was so full by the time we were almost home, the two huge white pumpkins were strapped in the front passenger seat...I wish you could have seen some of the looks we got.  I love to ride in the back to watch DVDs and read. We are going to be flying to the East Coast this year.....Do you think I can manage to bring back more huge pumpkins?

Fall Cloche Party

I noticed that A Stroll Thru Life blog was having a "Fall Cloche Party".  I didn't want to be left out of the party so I decided to show off some of my Fall decorations using cloches.

One of my favorite Fall purchases this year is this "Trick or Treat" box cloche.  I filled it with black and orange foil balls and placed a white pumpkin with black and orange dots.

This black cloche has enclosed a battery operated candle with furry spiders and their web.

These two cloches are on a tablescape on my dining table.

This cloche is sitting on a roll of vintage "Kiddie Park 1958 Hampton Village" tickets.
The Halloween bear is holding on to his "Trick or Treat" tickets and pumpkin.

The vignette is sitting on a vintage black cigar box.

A black iron dress form is used to display a Fall Tea vignette.

Toile cream and black tea set with a Parisian card.

I added the small white pumpkin to make this large cloche have a touch of Fall.
